Abstract

This article addresses connections, contradictions and reflections on the Brazilian northern scene from the experiences of the formative nuclei of theatrical initiation of the Iurupari Project - Theater Group, an extension and culture project developed since 2015 at the Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará (Ufopa) Campus de Santarém/PA. Iurupari promotes the insertion of the university in the process of cultural development of the participants through experiences with the theatrical art. And it is through the theater education centers: children and teenagers' center (10 to 15 years old) and youth and adults' center (15 years old and up) that the university invites the community to enter the academic spaces. Due to the absence of performing arts and/or theater courses at the university, I investigate how the Iurupari project contributes to the performing arts in the Western Pará region and question if the entrance of different people from the outskirts of Santarém/PA into the university spaces encourages a social reflection about the place these people occupy in society.
