Abstract

The pedagogical practice in clown art has been applied worldwide with an increased growth in recent years. Teaching how to be a clown is a process that leads the learner towards self-discovery. In the clown field, I decided to put two pedagogical practices in dialogue: Ricardo Puccetti from the LUME Teatro and André Casaca from the Teatro C’art, both artists and masters of clown art. The search for the clown state and the discovery of the creature of the comic body are based on practices carried out in Portugal and Italy, respectively, Puccetti and Casaca. By investigating the state of the comic body with these artists, the path of the relational body and the field of affections are traversed: the vectors of receptivity. The comic is strongly supported in the atmosphere of emergence and vulnerability and by calling the child-body of the performer to engage in the here and now. The teacher’s place is also a space of engagement. Casaca and Puccetti, when traversing the experiences of the apprentice’s body – summoning the grounds of emergence and vulnerability – delve into a state of artistic ally.
